  • Overview

    The Payroll Associate will be responsible for the accurate processing of semi-monthly payrolls for all provinces across Canada. Ensures payroll activities are performed in a timely manner with an exceptional level of quality.


    Required Duties:

    • Ensure timely processing of employee payroll through third party payroll systems – ADP and Desjardins.
    • Ensure all associate payments are completed accurately
    • Maintain payroll data and payroll requests associated with each payroll process in appropriate formats – Excel, email system.
    • Ensure that all payroll inquiries are resolved to the customers’ satisfaction within the Service Level Agreement.
    • Accurately calculates and process special compensation, commissions, retro pay increases and final payouts.
    • Execute payroll in compliance with rules and regulations around source deductions including Federal and Provincial Income Tax, Canadian Pension (CPP) and Employment Insurance (EI).
    • Establish strong partnership with HR and Finance to ensure policies and procedures are adhere to and financial reporting is accurate and complete. Ensures appropriate setup of all employee deductions
    • Processing of employee verifications
    • Manage payments to Worker’s Compensation Boards in respective jurisdictions
    • Complete year-end filings as prescribed by regulatory bodies and follow up with any queries and/or audits.
    • Process shadow payroll for ExPats as required.  Liaise with third party consultants to calculate Hypo-Tax; review year- end tax reconciliation and flag potential issues.
    • Continuously improves the payroll process by analyzing trends and providing recommendations.
    • Provides reporting services to business units by compiling and analyzing data as requested or required.
    • Maintain customer confidentiality by appropriately securing all documentation
    • Any other related duties as required.

    Required Skills/Experience

    • Post-secondary education or equivalent, college diploma preferred
    • 3 plus years payroll processing experience.
    • Experience with Workday or similar enterprise wide system
    • Experience working with 3rd party payroll providers eg, ADP
    • Excellent computer skills using MS Office and other computer systems
    • Excellent organizational and communication skills (written and verbal)
    • Attention to detail and ability to multi-task
    • Strong customer service skills and ability to be confidential
    • Demonstrate sound judgment and problem solving skills
    • Strong numeric aptitude

    Physical Demands of Job:

    • Frequent hand motion to perform various duties
    • Occasional immediate reaching, minimal overhead reaching to perform various duties
    • Occasional standing and occasional walking for short amounts of time to perform various duties
    • Extended sitting for long periods of time at desk or workstation
    • Minimal squatting or bending to perform various duties
